Jackson Prep By DEBBIE HO Sun School Columnist THE JACKSON PREP varsity football team recently held its annual annual football banquet. With parents, players, managers, cheerleaders and friends present at the banquet, the coaches gave speeches highlighting the season. Various awards were announced during the banquet. Steve Higgin-botham Higgin-botham Higgin-botham was named Most Valuable Player and David Emerson received the Scholastic Award. Best Offensive Offensive Lineman went to Jack Crawford and Best Defensive Lineman went to Mark Maloney. Will Edgar received Best Defensive Defensive Back, and Best Offensive Back was David Saik. Hal Mayo received the coveted Paul Lacoste Jr. Memorial Award, also called the Coaches' Award. In the All-Star All-Star All-Star football game played at Prep, the South rolled over the North 56-16. 56-16. 56-16. Playing in the AU-Star AU-Star AU-Star game from Prep were Jack Crawford, David Saik and John Raines. THREE-YEAR THREE-YEAR THREE-YEAR lettermen on the varsity football team are Billy Anderson, Joel Bishop, George Blackburn, Frank Briggs, Tison Cory, Warren Cox, Jack Crawford, Will Edgar, David Emerson, Leland Gebhart; Also, Richard Greenlee, Steve Higginbotham, Steve Horner, Marty McLeod, Mark Maloney, Hal Mayo, Clay Price, John Raines, Gene Redden, Redden, Stephen Rogers; Also, Creg Rozina, David Saik, Geoff Sandifer, Jonathan Smith, Trey Stevens, Lavelle Sullivan and David Taylor. Two-year Two-year Two-year lettermen on the team are Tommy Abernethy, Trey Britt, Will Crosby, Dave Fulcher, Darren Furman, Bart Galloway, Jay Hughes, Todd Mardis, Brad Reeves and Chad Stockett. One-year One-year One-year lettermen on the team are Lee Alexander, Kyle Bailey, Eric Barron, Kevin Bourne, Cameron Brackett, Jim Brown, Travis Carpenter, Scott Gideon, George Gourley; Also, Preston Harper, Will Harris, Harris, Thomas Iupe, Charlie Jones, Franz Lorio, Hal Perkins, Michael Reeder, Worth Simmons, Allen Smith and Andrew Smith. MANAGERS FOR the team were Mark Chittom, Mack Mitchell, John Pearson and John Horecky. Statistician Statistician was Eric Chisholm. Scoreboard operator was Allison Coggin. And, clock operator was Chris Dong. Coaches for the team were Buddy Crosby, head coach; David Coates, offensive coach; Mike Kinnison, defensive back coach; and Randy Rucker, defensive line coach. The varsity boys' basketball team defeated Madison Ridgeland Academy 53-41. 53-41. 53-41. Ben Roberson rallied the Pats with 15 points; Chris Hughes, seven; Jeff Redding, 10; Paige Purvis, 12; Wes McCubbins, five; Kirk Jeffreys, one; and Trey Stevens, two. The girls' varsity basketball team was defeated 52-37. 52-37. 52-37. Leigh Edgar was high scorer for the Lady Pats with 12 points; Barrie Aden, eight; Peggy Emerson, five; Melinda Latimer, one; Jewell Thurber, three; Kathryn Hays, Susan Stegall, two; and Mary Elizabeth Russ, four.
