(By Appointment) 856-6000 shot By LISA HAMILTON Sun School Columnist THE WOODLAND HILLS Baptist Academy basketball teams faced both wins and losses last week beginning at Hillcrest Academy Dec. 2. The boys' varsity was narrowly defeated 88-85. High scorers were Jeff Showah, 18; Rand Ray, 16; and Scott Brewster, 15. The girls, however, stopped Hillcrest 65-62 with leaders Amy Ball with 18, Pam Kerr with 14, and Deana Lail, 13.

It was a win for the junior high boys as they edged Hillcrest 55-53. Michael Akin scored 24 points while Dennis Mobley scored 20. Unfortunately, the junior high girls were defeated 41-17, but Sonya Shard-nagle did score nine points while Laura Morgan had four. Woodland Hills hosted Copiah Academy Dec. 4 with big wins for the 'Cats.

The varsity boys stomped the Colonels 63-47. Leading in points were Jeff Showah, 17 and Kris Koenig, 14. Team members Retail $68.00 jr Brogans Madison Ridgeland Academy's juniors and seniors are participating in a pilot program in Mississippi called the Stock Market Game. Currently ranked first in Mississippi and 15th in the nation, the junior class team members are (from left) Ken Crosby, Steve Easley, Paula Heap, Brian Tullos and Jim Prescott. ANOTHER AWESOME senior ballplayer, Pam Kerr, was injured in the game Saturday night.

Pam suffered a knee injury which will cause the Lady 'Cats to lose another great player. Best of luck to these girls as they recover and to this team as they continue in the season. The basketball teams faced Jackson Academy Dec. 8, and are now participating in the MRA tournament which lasts through Dec. 13.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes held its Christmas party Dec. 3 in the home of Jennifer Barnett. FCA members took toys to be given to needy children for Christmas. THOSE ATTENDING were Hank Maxwell, Scott Brewster, John Harris, Jerry Harris, John Damon, Stu Keyes, Pam Kerr, Deana Lail, Mark Davidson, Billy Kirkpatrick; Also, Mark Merritte, Loren Warrington, Joey Davenport, Blake Murphy, Scott Murphy, Tracy Reves, Kenny Thornton, Todd Fuller, Staci Huffman, Jennifer Barnett; Also, Chuck Trisdale, Christy Bradshaw, Sean Hales, Missy Maier, Kim Winstead, Jody Elder, Benji Brewer, Tom Doty, Amy Ball, Shayne Blount; Also, Chris Berryhill, Chris Claybrook, Kim Cooper, Randy Reinhardt, Von Sumrall and sponsors Rick Hammarstrom and Marion Jones. Woodland Hills students made a petition last week in favor of the lighted cross on the Sillers' building.

The petition was then taken to the Siller's building where it was presented by a student delegation consisting of seniors who had displayed efforts on the petition. THESE STUDENTS were Von Sumrall, Pat Kyle, Lisa Hamilton, Elizabeth Ray, Jennifer Barnett, Many McClendon, Heather Her-riard, Mike Rosella, Tom Doty and Marci Conkling. Special thanks to teachers Judy Nabors and Renee Tullos and Headmaster David Derrick for their help. The Hi-Lites drill team is collecting canned goods to be donated at Christmas, so don't forget to bring your items to school. Jackson Prep Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The junior high boys also closed in on Copiah by winning 38-29.

Michael Akin and Dennis Mobley led again in scoring. Akin had 16 and Mobley, nine. The 'Cats headed to Madison Ridgeland Academy Dec. 6 to play the arch-rival Patriots. The varsity boys held MRA until late in the fourth quarter when the Patriots came back to win 44-35.

Scott Brewster scored 11 and Jeff Showah, eight. The girls were barely defeated by a disappointing 49-45. High scorers were Amy Ball, 13 and Colleen Joransen, 11. This varsity girls' team has done extremely well overcoming obstacles as two outstanding seniors Tracy Fortenberry and Loren Whittington faced knee surgeries, causing them to be out for the entire season. Brogans By DEBBIE HO Sun School Columnist THE JACKSON PREP varsity football team recently held its annual football banquet.

With parents, players, managers, cheerleaders and friends present at the banquet, the coaches gave speeches highlighting the season. Various awards were announced during the banquet. Steve Higgin-botham was named Most Valuable Player and David Emerson received the Scholastic Award. Best Offensive Lineman went to Jack Crawford and Best Defensive Lineman went to Mark Maloney. Will Edgar received Best Defensive Back, and Best Offensive Back was David Saik.

Hal Mayo received the coveted Paul Lacoste Jr. Memorial Award, also called the Coaches' Award. In the All-Star football game played at Prep, the South rolled over the North 56-16. Playing in the AU-Star game from Prep were Jack Crawford, David Saik and John Raines. Reeder, Worth Simmons, Allen Smith and Andrew Smith.

MANAGERS FOR the team were Mark Chittom, Mack Mitchell, John Pearson and John Horecky. Statistician was Eric Chisholm. Scoreboard operator was Allison Coggin. And, clock operator was Chris Dong. Coaches for the team were Buddy Crosby, head coach; David Coates, offensive coach; Mike Kinnison, defensive back coach; and Randy Rucker, defensive line coach.

The varsity boys' basketball team defeated Madison Ridgeland Academy 53-41. Ben Roberson rallied the Pats with 15 points; Chris Hughes, seven; Jeff Redding, 10; Paige Purvis, 12; Wes McCubbins, five; Kirk Jeffreys, one; and Trey Stevens, two. The girls' varsity basketball team was defeated 52-37. Leigh Edgar was high scorer for the Lady Pats with 12 points; Barrie Aden, eight; Peggy Emerson, five; Melinda Latimer, one; Jewell Thurber, three; Kathryn Hays, Susan Stegall, two; and Mary Elizabeth Russ, four. IN THE GAME against Jackson Academy, the boys' varsity basketball team maneuvered a 45-30 victory.

Paige Purvis led the team with 18 points; Ben Roberson, seven; Chris Hughes, six; Jeff Redding, three; Wes McCubbins, eight; and Bert Carpenter, two. The girls' team was defeated 59-50. Barrie Aden was high scorer with 12 points; Peggy Emerson, four; Melinda Latimer, nine; Kathryn Hays, five; Jewell Thurber, seven; Mary Elizabeth Russ, two; and Ieigh Edgar, 10 points. The Jackson Prep varsity boys' basketball team beat Copiah Academy 7342. Paige Purvis was high scorer with 14 points; Ben Roberson, 12; Chris Hughes, Trey Stevens, six; Jeff Redding, Wes McCubbins, eight; Kirk Jeffreys, Jim Thompson, two; David Dausman, four; Mike Zadroga, Phil Smith, five; and Ted Thompson, one.

The girls' varsity basketball team beat Copiah Academy 47-39. Leigh Edgar shot for 18 points; Barrie Aden, 14; Jewell Thurber, 10; Mary Elizabeth Russ, four; and Cheryl Sutherland, one. THE VARSITY basketball teams are not participating in the MRA basketball tourney Dec. 10-12. Prep will hold the basketball Christmas tourney Dec.
