Adams, who directs the hemoglobin research laboratory at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, has written more than 40 scientific articles and a book about hemoglobin genetics. He earned the MS and Ph.D.

at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has been on the UMC faculty since 1976. He is a member of the Japan-USA Cooperative Hemoglobin Study Group and a special Center for Disease Control task force. Two University of Mississippi Medical Center faculty members from Northeast Jackson have been elected as members of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation. The new members are Dr. Angel Markov, professor of medicine, and Dr.

Junius Adams III, associate professor of medicine (research). Markov earned the MD cum laude at Catholic University of Lou-vain, Belgium, in 1972 and the Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics at the UMC. He also completed his residency and a cardiology fellowship at UMC.
