Thursday, December 12, 1974 THE NORTHSIDE SUN, JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI Section One, Page Eight Downey takes AAA public affairs post James H. (Hank) Downey of Jackson has been appointed Public Affairs Coordinator for the Mississippi Region of the American Automobile Association, Robert L. Foley, AAA Central Gulf Division Manager, announced. Affairs Coordinator, Foley said, Downey will formulate and implement legislative programs in Mississippi consistent with the policies of AAA and its Regional Advisory Board in order to ensure the safety, convenience and welfare of the state's motorists; maintain communications with area news media, work closely with law enforcement and school officials toward the continued implementation of AAA safety programs; and work with the Association's broad range of publications. Downey, a native of Hattiesburg, formerly held a marketing and public relations post with Chicago Title Insurance Co.

Prior to that, he was a Staff Newsman in the Jackson bureau of The Associated Press and News Editor of WAPT Television. Active in a number of civic and professional organizations, Downey also serves as KATHERINE BARNETT Mrs. Barnett shows art work Among the artists showing their work at the grand opening of the Mississippi Artists Guild Gallery, 4089 North State last weekend was Katherine Barnett. Mrs. Barnett is a native Jackson artist and has held shows in Canton and Jackson.

One of her watercolors was selected for an American Red Cross art award, and as an award winner, the painting was sent on tour to different countries and was included in a film. She has studied under several artists, notably Russell Louis Marx, and is known for her pastel and oil portraits. Mrs. Barnett is a charter member of the Mississippi Artists Guild, for which she serves as program and shows volunteer public information advisor to the Jackson Fire Department. He resides with his wife, the former Jan Crenshaw of Meridian, and their daughter in the Belhaven section.

Mrs. Wellborn died Dec. 6 in a local nursing home. A native of New Hampton, Mrs. Wellborn resided in Memphis for 50 years prior to moving to Jackson where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs.

W. J. Witt. She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Memphis.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Carl B. Wellborn of Memphis; a sister, Mrs. Izelle Stirling of Upton, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Interment was in the family crypt in Forest Hill Cemetery. HARVEY H.

Mrs. Cohen was born in New York City, but moved to Jackson when she married. Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Frank; a son, Leonard Cohen; a sister, Mrs. Sam Cohen all of Jackson; and three grandchildren.
