Volunteers needed for fall activities Fall is a fun time of the year and the volunteer opportunities at the Jackson Area Voluntary Action Center certainly reflect that mood. Volunteers are now needed to assist in teaching drama, arts and crafts, dance and skating at a local school. The center also is looking for volunteer workers to lead a Cub Scout Troop, coach several sports, and lifeguard at different locations in our city.

All of these worthwhile activities will benefit young people who are in need of new MRS. Amason Tedder officiated. Mrs. Chapman died Sept. 28 in the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center following a lengthy illness at the age of 78. She was a native of Rankin County and was a lifelong member of the Cato Baptist Church near Mendenhall before moving to San Antonio, in her later years.

She was a member of the North East Baptist Church in San Antonio. Her survivors include three sons, Clyde Chapman of Jackson, Carroll Chapman of Jackson, business manager of Herrin-Gear Chevrolet, and Wiley A. Chapman of Pearl; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Johnson of Mize; four brothers, Horace Grantham of Jackson, A. J.

Grantham of Richland, Lester Grantham of Pearl and Harold Grantham of Oklahoma City, two sisters, Mrs. Irene Cagle and Mrs. Audry Robinson, both of Jackson; 18 grandchildren, including Greg and Kyle Chapman of Jackson, students at Woodland Hills Baptist Academy; and five great grandchildren. MRS. TEELIE ABEL Star member A funeral was held Oct. 3 in the chapel of Wright and Ferguson for Mrs. Teelie Abel of 515 Mitchell Ave. The Rev.

W. C. McLelland officiated. Mrs. Abel, 80, died early Sunday morning, Oct.

2, in a local nursing home. She was a native of Holly Bush, and had resided in Jackson for 56 years where she was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. Her survivors include son, Hugh D. Abel of San Francisco, three grandchildren, Rondo H.

Mrs. Gill, 69, died unexpected Sept. 30 in the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center from an apparent heart attack. Mrs. Gill, nee Sue Boren, was the daughter of O.

T. and Elizabeth Gilmer Boren and a native of Oxford. She attended Mississippi University for Women, the University of Miss. and the University of Chicago. She had resided in Jackson for 32 years where she was a former director of social services at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Friendship Bible Class. Her survivors include her husband; one son, Normer L. Gill one sister, Mrs. Luna Mae Fields; and three grandchildren, all of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Heart Association or the Baptist Children's Village.
