The cheerleaders claimed this to be a "soul" pep rally, so everyone was full of spirit and ready to boogie.

Juniors Beth Barnes, Kaye Barnett, Jennifer Boyles, Melanie Crews, Donna Dear-man, Tricia Hanniford, Flynt Jones, Priscilla Jones, Al Lawson, Cheryl Mize, Mary Plunkett, Linnea Reed, Sandy By SANDY SEAL Friday night, a crowd in excess of 2000 witnessed a battle between the Manhattan Lancers and Prep Patriots.

They saw not just a game, but a true rivalry in which neither team ever quit. The Lancers played a very good game, and though the, Patriots won the scoreboard, the Lancers won the attention of all and proved they were winners and on their way to the top. Prep' had a 21-7 lead at halftime. The Lancers knew the game was not over and came out fighting for a victory in the second half. They received the second half kiekoff and drove for a TD.

Though unable to go into the end zone any more, they had other very good drives. The Pats scored only once more and the game ended a 28-14 Prep victory. Sophomore Jeff Gray, moving into the starting quarterback position from defensive back, completed 11 of 23 passes for 177 yards, and one touchdown pass to cousin Bill Gray. Gray received five passes for a total of 104 yards. Matt Jordan, once more the Lancers leading rusher, carried 15 times for a total of 100 yards.

He also made two PAT conversions. Mark Lindley scored Manhattan's last touchdown as he plunged for five yards into the end zone. Defensive leaders were Mark Lowe and Jeff Gray with seven tackles each. Mike Tolbert intercepted a Burkett pass in the second quarter saving a Patriot TD seconds before half. Spirit week at Manhattan proved to fire the Lancers up and have them ready to play ball.

Various activities were held during the week. The Sophomores had a paint party at Pebble Creek Thursday night. The lone Patriot score came in the first quarter on a three yard pass to Sophomore Jim Howell from Junior Bobby Osborne. It was set up by a spectacular 49-yard pass to Sophomore Flint Mc-Cullough from Osborne.

Mc-Cullough booted the extra point. The Patriots are open this week. They will close the season Nov. 10 at Mississippi Baptist. Ricky Kugle, a former M-RA student, came recently and talked to the art club.

He presented and explained the instruments he uses and also some of his own artwork. By using his work, he introduced many of his watercolor techniques. The basketball girls are offering their working services for yardwork or babysitting to any interested patron to raise money to pay for new matching outfits. Anyone interested, should contact one of the basketball players or Coach Brenda Hankins. 28 band contest in Tupelo. The auxiliaries also received superior. The drummers and the band received an excellent. Congratulations Marching Braves! Mrs. Gray's sophomore and junior English classes have started a school newspaper, the first for R.

Good luck, sophomores and juniors. The first edition was scheduled to come out Halloween Day. The Madison-Ridgeland Fighting Braves were defeated by the Forest Bearcats, 21-6. Madison-Ridgeland High News Madison By M-RA JOURNALISM CLASS The Halloween Carnival, held last Saturday, was a huge success. Dana Mayfield, a fourth grader, won the Corvette-style go-cart which was raffled off by the PTC.

Costume contest winners, first through third, were kindergarten and first grade, for most original costume, David Hilton, Donna Hilton and Brad Butler; Scariest costume, Stan Jorgan, Stephanie Rogers, and David Drewrey; Most Beautiful, Jena Craft, Lisa Taylor, and Jennifer Waldrup. Second and third grade, most original. Shannon Mc-Ghee, Susan Howell and Nathan Beckham; Christie Lane, Todd Yates and Chad Dacus, scariest; Jan Saucier, Sinda DeMoss and Sherri Koch, most beautiful. Fourth and fifth grade. Mat Lind, Shelley Quick, and Kevin Cooper, most original; scariest, Keith Powell, Kyle Kimmons and Heather Mills; Nancy Neely, Kendra Kimmons and Dana Mayfield, most beautiful.

Congratulations to the Senior class for a fantastic job on the Spook House. Some of the major attractions were Bryan Torrence as Frankenstein in chains; Neal Brunt as Dracula; Holly Holland, Bonnie Putman and Julie McLean as witches; Suzy Smith as the mad doctor; Rick Axtell and Greg Burkes as mummies; Jeff Johnson as a vampire; and Russell Black, Chuck Davis, and Tom Stewart as executioners. Other assorted spooks were Aaron Hawkins, Lisa Hartzog, Lamar Salers, El-lena Rigby, Sandy Boatner, Mary Nesteruk, Donna Clarke, Maria Andy, Donnie Harris, James Nance and Sheila Skipper. Guides for the Spook House were Angela Drake, Nina Allegreza, Pam Elliott, Mike Lofton and Kelli Williamson. M-RA's Jr.

High took on Canton Academy last Thursday for the Patriots' final game of the season. Excitement reigned as a Patriot score came on the first play of the game, a splendid 65-yard pass from Mark Sanders to Patrick Andy. However, it seemed as if the Canton Panthers dominated the rest of the first half, stopping Patriot attempts to score and The St. Richard's Cardinals beat the YMCA Charley Brown All Stars 6-0 in action last weekend. The fifth and sixth grade Cards' score came in the first quarter when Derick Topik put together a three-play march to the goal line.

The extra point attempt failed. Defensive players for the Cardinals were Landon Des-peaux, Dan Fairley, John Couch, Jay Angelo, Phil Buteau, Jeff Massey, Tony Richard, Jud Burkett, Todd MeKnight, Tony Shell and Bobby Moorehead. The Cards offense was led by Phil Buteau, Jimmy Catalano, Tony Richard, John Antwine, Wes Williams, Kirk Kirkland, Todd MeKnight, and Mike Aucoin. Graduating sixth graders Ken Rogers, Chris Kochtit-zky, Buteau, Catalano, Couch, Antwine, Williams, MeKnight, Verlin, Aucoin, Moorehead, Despeaux and Topik will play their last game Sunday, Nov. 4, in the K.C.

Bowl. Coaches are Jay Potter, Bubba Williams, Jim Fairley, Tommy Cummings and Jeff Potter. Managers are Mon-treil Cooper, Greg MeKnight and Tommy Morgan. DARTH Vader visited Jackson Academy during the Halloween Season. His final message was, "May the Force Be With You!" BARBECUE dinner in the Grove during the University of Mississippi Fall Festival was a treat for Bill Price of 105 Holly Trail, in the Reservoir area.

Long yardage plays by Daryl Bria, Mark Sanders and Jamie McCollum set the Pats up for a third quarter touchdown.

Bailey Braswell connected with Patrick Andy to score. The extra points were no good. Again, with good gains by Sanders, Bria, and Eddy Henle, came the fourth quarter TD as McCollum plunged across the line. Despite the mighty efforts on the part of the Patriots, the Pats were defeated 18-22. "Looking back on the season, I feel that we accomplished a great deal," commented Jr.

High Coach Dale Parker. "I was pleased that even though we had a losing season, we still played good, sound football. I would like to compliment the players on conducting themselves with good discipline both on and off the field, and I am proud to be affiliated with such a fine group. The freshmen will be an asset to next year's team because of their drive and determination." Agreeing with Coach Parker, Coach Bill Raphael stated, "I thought we had a good season. The boys worked real hard in practice, and we played some good football." After the Jr.

High game with Canton the football players and cheerleaders went to Tasty's. They enjoyed pizza and drinks, compliments of Mrs. Rita Martinson and Mrs. Judy Sanders. For an added attraction, at last Friday's pep rally, members of the faculty, dressed in blue jeans and jerseys, did two cheers and two chants.

Mr. Jim Wilson served as the Patriot, while Miss Janey Graves and Coach Raphael were sign holders. Cheering were Mrs. Nell Harpole, Mrs. Sara Foster, Mrs.

DeAnn Viator, Mrs. Patsy Ricks, Mrs. Jackie Jones, Mrs. Patsy Poole, Mrs. Frances Braswell and Mrs.

Jamie Kemp. Coach Brenda Hankins was their sponsor. Most spirited girls were Terry Hines and Ginger Davis. The spirit stick went to the faculty for their great spirit-raising performance. The Senior High Patriots took on Brookhaven Academy on the Patriot field and were defeated 14-7.

He's shown again and again 'that he know how to tackle problems and get results. Maurice Dantin is a leader. And leadership is the key to effective representation in the Senate.

As District Attorney. Dantin served three terms, building a solid reputation for aggressive law enforcement and criminal prosecution. As Mississippi's youngest mayor, he increased municipal services while reducing taxes. He received the Mississippi Municipal Association's Leadership Award. He demonstrated his commitment to protecting our environment as a founder and first president of the Pearl River Valley Development Association.

He was chairman of the board and two-time president of the Mississippi River and Harbors Association. In 14, he received the Regional Water Conservation Award from the Mississippi Wildlife Federation. Dantin is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the Korean War. Today he's a Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve and has commanded two reserve units.

Dantin served on the select 50-member National Board of Governors of the American Red Cross. He is currently National Coordinator of Disaster Volunteers for the Red Cross. Dantin is a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner and serves on the board of the First Methodist Church. He has served as a District Governor of Lions International. Dantin wrote the criminal section of the Mississippi Circuit Practice I published by the Mississippi Law Institute).

He has been chosen Outstanding Young Man and Outstanding Citizen of his home county. He is past president of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, member and past president of the Mississippi Prosecutors Association, and first president of the Marion County Historical Society. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Division of the American Cancer Society and the American Bar Association. Dantin earned a BA in Political Science and a law degree from Ole-Miss. While there, he served as student body president, law school president and ODK honor society president.
