Dukes of New Augusta. In lieu of flowers, the ami- of maintained suggestions them of any weather system which may drop large amounts of rain in the reservoir's watershed area, the directors said. However, the board contends that keeping the reservoir at 295 feet "will provide very little flood protection." "The limited storage capacity of the reservoir will be used to mitigate the severity of the flooding," the board promised. "The reservoir board is working in every possible way to be certain that the operation of the reservoir will lessen the severity of flooding in the Jackson area to the maximum extent practical within the limits of its design capability," according to the prepared statement. The lake was built for recreation and not flood control, the directors pointed out.

The board noted that it has hired a consultant to study the reservoir's capacity" and operations and "when his study is completed, his recommendations will be considered in revising the operations manual." "We pledge continuing cooperation to the City of Jackson and all concerned citizens," the board said. "We realize this policy will cause inconvenience to commercial and residential leaseholders and to members of the public who use the reservoir for recreational purposes. We pledge continuing efforts to mitigate this inconvenience." Maintaining the reservoir level at 295 feet has caused the loss of use of boat docks and other structures for "hundreds" of persons with waterfront leases, according to Moak. MEETING CANCELED Because of the holiday season, the Ridgeland Board of Aldermen canceled the Tuesday, Dec. 17 Board meeting, according to City Clerk Marcella Cannon.

Mississippi Museum of Art MUSEUM REGISTRATION is now being taken for Winter Quarter of Classes The governing board of the Barnett Reservoir last week promised to operate the man-made lake in a way to "lessen the severity of flooding in the Jackson area," but declined to lower the reservoir's level to 294 feet as some persons had asked. The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District Board of Directors voted to maintain the reservoir level at 295 feet at the dam during the rainy season and at 297 feet during summer months. Those levels are recommended in the reservoir's operations manual, said Charlie Moak, reservoir general manager. The Jackson City Council and the Mississippi Flood Victims Association had asked the board to lower the reservoir's level to 294 feet as an attempt to control flooding of the Pearl River in the Jackson area. Approximately 60 citizens turned out for the board Variance is sought Of the six new zoning cases filed with the City Planning Board only one involved the Northside area according to Zoning Administrator Andy Sweat.

Mrs. Anita H. Mrs. Fowler wants a variance to allow hers to be in approximately the middle of the yard. ly requests that memorials be made to a favorite charity or to Fondren Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers were T. J.
