I got to meet people like Denny Crum at Louisville, Eldon Miller who was at Ohio State, and Robin Roberts at South Florida. "But it was really a seven-day-a-wcek job during the seasons. I got a little burned out from the constant pressure that so many Division 1 schools feel to win and make money, plus the fact that I was not as involved in church as I wanted to be. My time in sports informa tion was wonderful, but now I can serve the church here in Edinburg and still keep my hand in sports as a hobby. I couldn't ask for a better situation, and I'm really excited about UTPA athletics," Cash said.

Do sports and religion mix? Blair Cash. a new volunteer on The University of Texas-Pan American basketball statistics crew, will find out quickly. Cash is the new, recently ordained pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Edinburg. The ministry is a new experience for Cash, 36, a native of Jackson. But he's no stranger to college athletics.

"I spent 1 1 years as a sports information director before going to seminary," he said, "so I think I'll know what I'm doing in helping out the Pan Am sports information department in my spare time." Cash served at Bclhaven College, his alma mater, and the University of Montevallo (Ala.) before becoming SID at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, a Sun Belt Conference team. "I really enjoyed South Alabama," Cash reflects. "I worked with Cliff Ellis, now the basketball coach at Clemson, and was there for Eddie Stanky's last baseball season.
