Approximately $4,000 was raised. Genealogical gical Society meets THE MISSISSIPPI Genealogical Society met at the Municipal Art Gallery March 18 with Dr. Frances Watson, president, presiding.

She expressed thanks from the Society to Mrs. Henry P. Mills, Mrs. Joseph Odom and Otho Johnson for help in contacting other historical and genealogical groups throughout the state in support of Elbert Hilliard's stand to keep the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in its present state. Report of the nominating committee was brought by Mrs.

Bruce Nicholson. Mrs. John P. Harkins was elected to serve as president of the society for the coming two years. Gordon Wells was re-elected to serve as treasurer.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Jacobs and Dr. Betty S.

Drake were elected to membership. MRS. HARRIET Decell Kuykendall, former regional librarian for the Yazoo Area, and the co-author, along with Jo Ann Prichard, of a history entitled "Yazoo Legends and Legacies," was introduced by Dr. Watson. Mrs.

Kuykendall presented Phyllis Perry Perry, Geary to wed Mrs. Bobbye Perry and Meadow Perry Jr. of Yazoo City announce the engagement of their daughter, Phyllis Dianne Perry, to John Hart Geary son of Mr. and Mrs. John H.

Geary of Jackson. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garland H. Buffaloe of Canton, and the late Mr.

and Mrs. Meadow Perry Sr. of Yazoo City. The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mrs. W.

C. Hester and the late Mr. Hester of Jackson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arnot Geary Sr.

of Vicksburg. Miss Perry, a graduate of Manchester Academy, attended Mississippi University, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Mississippi, and teaches at New Life Christian School in Jackson. Geary, a graduate of Jackson Preparatory School, attended Vanderbilt University, where he received the bachelor's degree i in English. He holds the master's degree in psychology and the Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
